Local Attractions

There is simply so much to do when you visit Bermagui and Wallaga Lake. With so many sites and locations to visit, it can seem overwhelming when planning a trip. We have compiled a list of some of the most notable attractions and activities that our area is best known for. We hope you have an amazing trip!

Bermagui Visitor Centre

Wallaga Lake

  • BUSHWALKING: Mount Dromedary in Guluga National Park is one of the most visited natural areas in our area and many people enjoy walking through the rainforest and seeing rainforest species along the way.


  • MARKETS: Visit Bermagui’s Sunday market, which is on the last Sunday of the month outside of the SLSC.


  • SURFING & SWIMMING: If you love to surf, you have many options to choose from. You can visit Beares Beach, Moreheads Beach, Haywards Beach and Cuttagee Beach to catch a wave. If you want to take a dip in the pool, you have to visit The Blue Pool, which is a large saltwater pool in the area. 


  • CULTURAL SITES: Wallaga Lake offers both tribal significance for the Yuin tribe as well as being the largest lake in southern NSW. Cultural tours to local Koori sites are organized by the Umbarra Cultural Centre. They offer hands-on activities such as ochre painting and bark hut building. Trips are also made to significant sites including Mt Dromedary (Gulaga), Mystery Bay and Mumbulla Mountain.


  • SPORTS: Visit our 18-holf golf course, lawn bowling rinks and all weather tennis courts.

Fishing

American author Zane Grey made Bermagui internationally famous by pioneering the sport of game fishing here in the 1930s. The continental shelf, being at its closest point to the mainland off Bermagui, provides fine fishing off the shoreline for amateur, deep sea and game fishing. It's where warm southern currents flow and the big game fish are in tow.


Our town also has our own commercial fishing fleet and Bermagui Fishermen's Co-operative that serves fresh fish and prawns daily. 

Boating

The boat harbour has a safe, all-weather entrance and a large launching ramp. There are facilities around Bermagui for fishers of all types including boat ramps, trailer parking and facilities to weigh and clean fish. Hire boats are also available and your own boat can be launched. Children can fish in the safe waters of the lakes, pools and beaches of the area.


There are also boat tours that let divers view sponges and gorgonian fans.
